MOTHER EARTH [view pilot ]
Voyage visiting exemplary food communities
Created by Walter Bencini, the 13-episode television series "MOTHER EARTH" bet in production phase, is of an international character. It is presented as the "Flavor Ark", and has the task of researching, cataloging, describing and flagging almost-forgotten flavors on a voyage to discover small producers of gastronomic excellence who are threatened by industrial agriculture, standardization, and blight. A "last-minute" voyage to discover products threatened with extinction but still alive and possessing real productive and commercial potential. Under the auspices of Slow Food, the "Flavor Ark" will take a look at the daily and continuous commitment of a few food communities that have developed small scale economies, steadfastly defending the biodiversity and dignity of the rural world, and safeguarding the inestimable patrimony of age-old traditions and manual skill. These food communities, having forever worked to preserve their valuable agricultural heritage, today represent the avant-garde of "new" farming techniques and of a food production philosophy that is particularly attentive to organoleptic quality, sustainability and social equity. As a group, they wage important battles for the free circulation of information, for fair trade, for water rights, for agriculture without GMOs in an order to safeguard indigenous varieties, for the trusteeship of origin, for the protection of mountain pasture etc…This television series can give birth to a new alliance between those who produce food and those who buy food; a relationship founded on a complicity and fellowship that transforms averageconsumers into modern co-producers ready and able to support, through their own choices, those who persist in practicing good, clean and socially sustainable agriculture.
